Sleep Rules Poster
Last updated June 11, 2006
Inspired by advice from Dr. Marc Weissbluth's "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" (p. 195), these 4 Sleep Rules have helped many-a-child get into better sleeping habits.
This Kidea can be used as a model to make your own poster, or for those feeling less crafty, you'll find two versions of the poster in this file; a color-it-yourself poster and a full-color poster. Whichever you choose, we recommend having your child be involved in decorating the poster with crayons or stickers and/or hanging it above his or her bed. A sticker chart or other reward system for following the sleep rules is also very effective. We highly recommend reading Dr. Weissbluth's book for more advice on children's sleep issues. |

I cannot emphasize enough how helpful the sleep rules have been in our house. "Go to Sleep" can be so vague to a child. As adults we take the skill of falling asleep for granted. The sleep rules let the child know exactly what they are expected to do, and affords an opportunity for positive reinforcement when the rules are followed.
